About
"They say it is an ill bird that fouls it's own nest." John Ruskin
Saving Birds Thru Habitat was established in 2001 to help stem the decline of our migratory songbird population by teaching people of all ages how to protect, enhance and restore habitat for North American birds.
Human activities have caused a planet wide metabolic rift with disastrous consequences both known and yet to be known, severely threatening human health and well being and the long term survival of civilized society. The scale of the problem posed for humanity and for all future generations defies imagination. A crisis has been growing dramatically and exponentially, particularly since around 1950 with the explosive growth in the burning of fossil fuels; the ongoing literal mechanical destruction of ecosystems known as "development" or "improvement"; the introduction of millions of different new manufactured chemical compounds not previously existing on the planet; the release of synthetic radionuclides into the environment; and by the intentional or unintentional introduction of species into entirely different ecosystems. Much of this destructive activity can be traced back earlier than 1950, of course, but we can see that year as the beginning of a rapid spread and acceleration of those activities.
