Anne McInnis, Volunteer Coordinator

After a long career as a teacher, culminating with many years at Cranbrook Schools Brookside during which she was honored as the State and National Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Teaching Science,  Ann McInnis retired and moved with her husband Doug to Leelanau County. While still living in Oakland County, she was also a seasonal Interpretive Naturalist with Oakland County Parks. After retirement, she and Doug moved to Leelanau County where she has continued enthusiastically volunteering as a docent or trail leader for a number of nature based organizations.

Ann generously shares her life-long knowledge and enthusiasm for all things science and nature with folks of all ages, and she aims to make their outdoor experience a treasured one of learning and fun. Through guided questioning, she engages participants in making perceptive observations and exciting discoveries while sharing tidbits from her own background. She enhances her hikes with hands-on learning tools, appropriate artifacts and special activities.  She always welcomes input from participants.
